WATERMIST

  • Uses very small quantities of water
  • Prevents re-ignition, highly effective in flammable liquid based fires due to cooling  effect
  • Clean, produces no residue.
  • Extinguishes inflammable  liquid fires efficiently.
  • Ecological, does not harm the environment.

Water mist systems provide a quick and efficient extinguishing of flammable liquid fires eliminating the hazard of re-ignition.They are ideal for kitchen hoods, fryers, engine rooms and other similar industrial risks where inflammable liquids are used.

The heart of the water mist system are the nozzles which are designed to produce very fine water droplets very quickly. The resulting “water mist” displaces the equivalent volume of oxygen thus producing a smothering effect.Heat is also absorbed by the mist, quickly cooling a fire.

Water is stored in a cylinder under pressure. In the event of fire, the water is conveyed via pipe work to discharge nozzles situated in the risk area, where it is allowed to discharge and produce a water mist as described.

Systems may be operated either electrically or manually dependant on system design. Within a cooker hood for example, it would be normal practice for AFS to design a system utilising early warning heat detection, taking into consideration the air speed through the ductwork and the working temperature. The detection circuit would be connected to a purpose made Fire Extinguishing Control Panel, complete with internal power supplies and standby batteries that would power the system in the event of a power cut. The control panel as other facilities what include alarm sounder outputs and remote signalling for connection to a central system, or another building Systems can also be designed for operating from other forms of fire detection including Air Aspirating Systems, Smoke Detectors and Flame Detectors.

In the event that the fire detection system operated, a time delay can be provided within the control panel prior to actual discharge. The Water Mist system will be equipped with an electrical device such as a solenoid or protractor that will operate the cylinder valve or valves.
